Pálvölgyi cave in Budapest

These are hydrothermal caves, with many unexpected passages and beautiful natural formations. Unfortunately only four out of 200 caves can be visited, or rather are open to the public. Some of the caves in the entire territory of Hungary have well appointed stairs, ladders, and others remained in their natural state and open to the public, ideal for those who are not afraid to wet, climb and grow in the special environment. Pálvölgyi, the cave is located in the Buda hills, at the basement of the country. The very pure air of this beautiful cave is attributed to the healing powers.  It is observed to impart therapeutic affects to the body. Pálvölgyi cave is about 14 kilometers long, the third largest cave in Hungary.

The cave is one of the most interesting caves and has a stalactite room with magical figures which are similar in form to the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Since 1944, the cave is among the list of Hungarys natural reserves.

The cave is known for its drips, but much more interesting are the high-ceilinged corridors, significant differences between levels, and how mineral waters have shaped the rock into unusual shapes. It is a world that seems to have petrified, even where the temperature remains constant (52 ° F or 11 ° C) throughout the year.

The cave is located in mountains and can be visited by tourists, who enjoy the most bizarre stalactite formations. The structures are reminiscent of animal figures, such as elephants and crocodiles. The rock ceiling of the cave is a half-million years old and the stories the tour guides are also part of the deep past. The newly built 500 m long hiking trail promises many surprises: it leads us into a magical world where unusual rock formations have remained unchanged for thousands of years, the solidified state.

There are organized tours every hour, which lasts 50 minutes and runs 500 meters from the cave, through ladders and steep stairs, so not recommended for people with physical problems or children under 5 years. The tour organizers will supply coveralls, helmets, and headlights. You should definitely be dressed warmly because the temperature in the cave is 11 degrees Celsius throughout the year. Directions: The entrance is at the foot of Mount Matías, Szepvölgyi Street 162, District II. You can reach the bus 65 running from the square Kosoly and get off at the stop-völgyi Pál, once there youll see a house that is the access to the cave where you will find all the information for the visit.
