Budapest in LOVE

There is nothing better than wander through the streets of Budapest with your loved one. For centuries the Danube River has been a source of inspiration for writers, filmmakers and theater producers. Buda and Pest are separated by the blue Danube, which is actually the longest river in Europe that spreads across up to 10 countries. Let’s follow this fantastic water source at the known as the Pearl of the Danube. Budapest awaits.

Chain Bridge

Let’s start our tour at the magical Chain Bridge. On one side you’ll find the Sisi Bridge and on the other side, the Franz Joseph Bridge. From there you will have an overview of the two sides of Budapest, which is the perfect place to start exploring the city.

Breakfast at Cafe New York

If you need to charge your batteries before this tour, you want to have breakfast at Café New York. Although it isn’t very cheap, it´s worth going there just to see its architecture. This building will make you feel like being part of a movie from the 30s in New York. It seems like an ancient palace. The waiters are elegantly dressed to serve the most selected clientele of the cafe. There you can also find some tourists, which you’ll recognize by how they are dressed. I must say that although this is a luxury place, there is no dress code required.

Erzsébet Park

To continue our tour we’ll head to Pest to enjoy a relaxing walk in the Erzsébet Park. There you’ll find many padlocks hanged by young lovers and honeymooners inspired by Federico Moccia´s novel “Want you”. It its possible to buy these padlocks in many places throughout the city, you only have to write your names on one of them, close it and keep the key forever.

The Szechenyi thermal baths

It is impossible to come to Budapest and not going to Szechenyi thermal baths. This is a very romantic and very pleasant plan to do with your loved one. There are hot and cold pools, steam rooms, saunas … and there you can even play chess on floating tables in the water. Chess players create great excitement among the locals, since Chess is considered as a very important sport in Budapest. Szechenyi thermal baths offer a very relaxed getaway, while renewing your energy.

A romantic dinner at Flamingo restaurant

One of the best things of a romantic day is to go for dinner. Well, in the Erzsébetváros area, Dob street 55, you will find a very nice restaurant called Flamingo. The best thing of this restaurant is its terrace, which is cozy and full of flowers. There you’ll enjoy a great evening with live music (usually a pianist) and the best Hungarian cuisine as well as international dish. Don’t forget to try the Hungarian wine, which will make the whole dinner even more special.

Have a drink on an evening cruise on the Danube

But our evening doesn’t have to end with dinner. Once you have eaten you can go ahead and enjoy a nice cruise on the Danube with friends. Some cruises even include dinner. Navigating the river and seeing the whole city lit is a second to none experience. From there you can make some pictures to remember with the best views of the city.

Christmas Market in Budapest

Christmas is a time that whether we like it or not, whether were Christians, Muslims, Jews or atheists, it always connects us with our childhood and that unstoppable pleasure of giving others a small gift or something which brings them happiness, even if its a short one, but that feels affection further than itself. Maybe from there theres emerges the tradition of Christmas markets, and Budapest has the most beautiful and entertaining one in the whole of Eastern Europe.

Known as the Christmas market of Vörösmarty Square, it begins every year close to the 20th of November, for those who go shopping early and dont leave everything until the last minute. The closing date is the 29th of December, because theres always someone who left buying presents until late and waits until the new year to give them. Its opening hours are from 10am until 8pm except on the 24th, because that day, for those who have forgotten its Christmas Eve, all 100 stands in the market are open until 2am in case anyone had forgotten to buy gifts.

In any case, its always beautiful, whether you go to buy gifts or not, to walk around this market which offers never ending objects for the delight of the ones with weak will to buy. Such is its fame that s become a classic spot for tourists, especially because of the singular aesthetics of this place, which is amplified with the pretty wooden stands styled like small chalets. Here they exhibit the most typical Hungarian crafts, curiosities, some interesting antiques, local artists works and all sorts of objects, which I assure you you wont find anywhere else.

However, not everything that you find here are objects, there are also the food stalls of typical food at unique prices, with dishes that would delight gourmets. If you still havent tried Lángos, bread cooked with a potato dough, I recommend it, because here youll find the most delicious and traditional ones in Budapest. There are also the wonderful apple strudel made in traditional Hungarian ovens. And to beat the cold, nothing better than a forrait, a warm punch made with wine, cinnamon and herbs which is served in a cup which you can take with you a souvenir of Budapest and its Christmas Market.

Also, there are musicians and cultural activities every day with different presentations. So dont think that if you went one day you saw it all, the opposite, there will always be new surprises to enjoy, so you can walk, see, eat and, of course, shop. Everywhere you can find stimulants that will make this visit a very special one.

For those who travel with their family, this is the ideal place to visit as a group, because apart from everything that weve explained for the adults, there are special entertainment programmes for the children, so nobody will get bored in this market.
