Rebecca Musical in Budapest

The Budapest Operetta and Musical Theatre, during several dates in February, March and April 2012 shows seven passes of a musical that will cause outcry in the Hungarian capital, Rebecca – The Mistress Of Manderley. Sure, some can now elucidate the plot of this musical, especially those who have had the pleasure of getting lost in the pages of the original novel by Daphne du Maurier.

The novel was published in 1938, making Maurier one of the most famous writers of the moment and this novel in her best         work.

Rebeccas argument is full of mystery and a heavy atmosphere that becomes increasingly tense, which was a  suitable climate for the genius of suspense, Alfred Hitchcock to make it into a film with Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine in the cast. The story unfolds when the widower Maxim Winter meets a young woman in Monte Carlo, who soon became the new Mrs. Winter. Her name will not be revealed in this story, because after moving into the Manderley mansion of The Winters, the new Mrs. Winter realized that the deceased Rebecca Winter is still present in the minds of everybody in the mansion. The housekeeper and the new character of Mr. Winter after moving to a gloomy and mysterious house, leads to a disturbing story that keeps the intrigue of Rebecca’s life and death to the end. The housekeeper increasingly unsettle the new Mrs. Winter and we will see how Max is letting himself being absorbed by the darkness of the house.

It is a challenge to convert one of the most important thriller stories into a musical, but Michael Kunze and Sylvester Lévay have managed to do an excellent job. The premier should have been in London that is why the script is written in English, but was ultimately the Raimund Theater in Vienna, was the chosen location for the premier. In Budapest, is expected to harvest the same success as in previous performances or more.

The actors and actresses, who will perform in this wonderful musical, have already been chosen. Zsuzsi Vágó will play the new Mrs. Winter, Szilveszter Szabó P. –  Maxim Winter and  Kata Janza – the housekeeper, Mrs. Danvers. We will be able to enjoy this second to none musical starting on the 6th of March.

Spring Music Festival in Budapest

After a hard winter, the return of spring means going out onto the streets again, enjoying some sun and being once again amongst nature, eating al fresco and going to café terraces. This past winter was a lot harder than the last. Perhaps its because of global warming that the seasons are more intense or unstable, with unexpected climate changes that include waves of wind and cold, storms and other phenomenons, so could it be true that its the end of the world in 2012? The human race and the thousands of inventions of its culture are always bordering the apocalypse; that machinery that unites us to death so desperately and that makes the final destruction of the planet something so selfish, eroticized and eventually another product of day to day consumption. Religions and companies, or religions that are companies or companies that are religions, it doesnt matter, just fill us with fear with these ideas that turn out to be false, that separate us from today, the time of action and the constant daily transformation.

Musical Spring Awakening in Budapest.

Change is the key word to describe the theater that Fran Wedeking practices, after each of his representations he always performs some sort of modification and there are always new layers to decipher. Let us not forget two of the most important architects of this great musical, Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater. The show is based on the dramatic genre and is considered an intense and provocative musical show.

musical spring awakening budapest

Since November 2009, the musical is being represented by a new young group of actors who give life to the characters in this harsh history. The musical “Spring Awakening” addresses the problems that arise as the youngsters grow. Romantic relationships of a teen who finds his first love, repressed emotions, sexuality and puritanism are some of the aspects through which this musical presents. Sheik and Saters songs reflect on the typical problems of puberty: the verve and audacity of youth, defying parental authority and acting as a rebel against social norms that adults attempt to impose . The musical “Spring Awakening” tells the story of a group of friends: Melchior, Moritz and Wendla. A real story that you could have happened to you.

The new show is directed by Somogyi Szilard, who aims to implement and adapt the dramatic genre to the modern world of musicals. The show is interactive and the viewer must reflect on certain aspects of it and draw his own conclusions. The components of the Budapest Broadway Studio are the artists who perform the work. They also learned a lot about themselves during the tests, according to their own testimony, as they were concerned and affected by the publics reaction at the intensity of their work. Thus, “Spring Awakening” is a show which is entertaining but also makes you examine your own conscience soul.

The performances will take place on January 14 and February 9.10. The site chosen for the occasion is the room of Operetta Stage Studio Theatre in Budapest. The show lasts for 2 hours and 40 minutes, with a pause. The ticket price is very economical and no more than 5 €. The Budapest Operetta hosts such native operettas based on Hungarian history and contemporary works, always trying to entertain as much as possible and investing in young talent.

The clash of cultures in the style of Love Story is the main theme of this operetta. Set in a distant land in rural Transylvania, where Romanians, Hungarians and Gypsies live together. The beautiful Zorika is the protagonist of this story.
